The Massachusetts International Festival of the Arts (MIFA), an established Holyoke based arts group that presents opera, theatre, dance, film, and music, engaged DBVW to prepare concept and historic tax credit application drawings for restoring and updating the Victory Theatre to serve as their new home. Opened in 1920, the historic theatre was originally designed for vaudeville and was converted to a movie theater in the 1930’s. Features include a grand staircase leading to an elliptical lobby, a sweeping two-tier balcony, and a proscenium stage with a fly tower. The theatre is ornately designed with marble floors, mahogany woodwork, silk brocade wall panels and intricate floral-patterned plaster work.
